Cash or cheque in advance of first class.
Each session is two hours in length including a short ten minute break.
Politismos employs a variety of experienced and qualified teachers who are native speakers of English.
Class sessions will include a variety of activities such as discussion, role-plays, listening comprehension, grammar and vocabulary exercises. A variety of audio-visual materials and equipment will be used. The tutor will aim to introduce new language and give you the opportunity to practise that language. The goal is then for you to produce that language in as natural a context as the classroom allows. There may be a certain amount of reading and writing during the classroom sessions, particularly to introduce and practise new language, but most reading and writing can be done most efficiently and at your own pace in your own time. There will be a greater emphasis on reading and writing skills for acdemic English courses.
For maximum improvement and progress it is as, if not more, important what you do outside the classroom as it is what you do during the class. Homework will be provided by the tutor but you will be expected to supplement this with your own work. There is no recommended minimum or maximum time but, obviously, the more time you find to devote to home study the faster your improvement will be. It will also give you a better return on your financial investment in the course.
A course book is provided. The tutor will primarily be using the set course book but will also supplement this with other learning materials where necessary. There is, of course, a huge variety of other published material in EFL which you might choose to purchase to help your learning. For students intending to take an exam during the course it is strongly recommended that exam-specific material is purchased. Information will be provided during the course.
Cambridge examinations are available at five levels, i.e. Key English Test (KET), Preliminary English Test (PET), First Certificate in English (FCE), Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). For more details please refer to the Cambridge EFL Examinations website at www.cambridgeesol.org/exams/index.htm#IELTS. If you have already achieved at a certain level, you will obviously begin to study with Politismos at the next level. If you are not certain of your level, we will offer you a brief placement test.
The EFL courses are designed for maximum flexibility. You can register for as long as you (and your tutor) feel are necessary for your objectives, possibly your readiness to sit the relevant Cambridge/IELTS exam.
